When I used to think of Texas, I thought of great barbecue, cowboy boots, and some awesome waterholes. The beach was not what came to my mind. But after our Texas winter retreat of full time RV living, the beach is now a great Texas memory for me. Growing up in Tennessee, if we went to the beach that usually meant Florida and I would say most people do think of beautiful beaches when you think of the sunshine state. I am going to say though, Texas has some great beach spots.
Texas is hot! The good Lord has a perfect plan and knew what he was doing when he gave them some amazing waterholes to cool down with. Let me tell you, just like it says in the song, “God Blessed Texas” and that he did with these aquatic beauties. So when we decided to hit up Texas as our winter escape and fly south like the birds do, (thats’s a perk when you live in your RV) I was a little hesitant because I didn’t want to miss out on all these amazing places due to the off
San Antonio is a beautiful piece of Texas history mixed with modern city flair. Not only is this city easy on the eyes, there are so many fun things to do. Living full time in our RV and traveling with a small child limits some of the activities we can partake in as we adventure to new cities. So with our daughter’s fear of elevators and basketball games (thats a new one to us but a true thing) that cancelled out the Tower of the Americas and catching a Spurs game (which was
We wanted the perfect outing in Austin Texas and with so much to do and see where does one even start? Might I suggest Zilker Park. This was one of my favorite Austin stops and with 350 acres to spare, this park has it all and something for everyone. The Sports Enthusiast – If you love being active and the outdoors, this is your holy grail. Lady Bird Hike and Bike Trail is the ideal place for walking, jogging, running, or biking. Do you remember what it was like as a kid making a new friend? It was so exciting and a great accomplishment finding that buddy on the playground who wanted to play with you. This memory came back to me after watching our daughter play at the Thinkery Children’s Museum in Austin. She was so excited playing with “new friends”. The Thinkery got me thinking, why does this change as we get older? Why as adults do we tend to stay in our bubble of friends and struggle to make new f
One of the most exciting benefits of a traveling lifestyle is you can choose when and where you want to be at a certain time of the year. This really comes in handy when you want to celebrate your birthday in a new city full of intriguing adventure. This was a milestone birthday for me and I was feeling a little sad about this one. I am so thankful for life and God blessing me with another year, but I was sad because I feel like this birthday symbolized me becoming a true adu
State and National Parks offer some of the most beautiful camping experiences that you will encounter. This type of camping is like no other and allows the public to camp in some of the most breathtaking parts of the country. It is land that is so beautiful it cannot be bought with monetary value, it is only meant to be shared with the world. With that being said, why would anyone choose any other type of camping? Well like everything in life, beauty comes at a price. However
Waking up in a new city is an exciting feeling. I look out the window and see a different view from the comfort of our RV home and the day is full of adventure ahead. It is a blank slate of new experiences and I can’t wait to soak it all up with my family at my side. With all the fun and excitement a unique city has to offer, I quickly have to think about what is most important for us to visit. As a “tourist” in a new area we want to go and see all a town has to offer, but on
